Tier 1 Investor: Existing Holders

The Tier 1 Investor route is closed to new applications and extensions. This page is for people who already hold, or recently held, Investor permission and need to check settlement or family applications. If you are considering a new investment in the UK, investing money alone does not open this visa route.

Understanding your next steps

How we can help

Check the permission you hold

The first questions are when your Investor permission was granted, when it ends and whether you meet the remaining settlement provisions. Earlier grant dates can affect which investment requirements apply. Old advice about extending the visa should not be relied on.

Review the investment history

We can examine the immigration evidence alongside your investment records and identify what needs clarification. Bring earlier applications, decision letters, portfolio statements and records of changes to investments. Immigration advice does not replace advice from a regulated investment or tax adviser.

Plan for the family

Partners and children have their own requirements and may not qualify for settlement at the same time as the main applicant. The dates and conditions on each family member's permission need to be checked separately.

A clear way forward

What happens next

  1. Collect the existing file

Provide your first and latest grants of permission, current status evidence, passport history and previous application documents.

  2. Check the settlement evidence

We review the relevant qualifying period, absences and investment documents, including any gaps that could affect the application.

  3. Choose a workable next step

We explain whether a settlement or family application may be available and what another route would require if it is not.

Fees and costs

The quotation will depend on the number of applicants and the work needed to review historic investments. Home Office fees, translations and any separate financial advice are additional items to identify.

02 / Timescales

Timing and preparation

Contact us well before your current permission expires. The closure of extensions makes early planning particularly important. Eligibility and any remaining application window must be checked against your individual history.

Useful to know

Your questions, answered

Can I apply for a new Investor visa?

No. New Tier 1 Investor applications are closed. Buying property or investing in a UK business does not by itself create permission to live here.

Can I extend my existing Investor visa?

The extension route is now closed. Existing holders should check whether settlement or another immigration route is available before their permission expires.

Is settlement automatic after investing?

No. The applicable investment, residence and other requirements still have to be met and evidenced. Your grant dates and investment history matter.

Can my partner apply with me?

Possibly, but their eligibility is assessed separately. Bring their immigration documents as well as yours so that the family timetable can be reviewed.
