Employing someone who needs sponsored permission starts with the employer's responsibilities as well as the worker's visa. SJS can advise on sponsor licence applications and the immigration requirements connected with recruitment. Tell us about your organisation, the proposed role and when you hope the employee will start.
Not every overseas national needs sponsorship. A person may already have a right to work through another status. Where sponsorship is required, the organisation needs the appropriate licence and the proposed job must meet the relevant route requirements.
Prepare the business evidence
The Home Office considers the organisation and its ability to meet sponsor duties. We can help identify the supporting documents and explain the roles of the people who will manage the licence. The application should reflect how the business actually operates.
Understand ongoing duties
A licence is an ongoing responsibility. Record keeping, reporting changes and monitoring sponsored workers matter after approval. We can explain the immigration duties relevant to the application and the points your HR procedures need to address.
A clear way forward
What happens next
01
Review the organisation and vacancy
Provide business registration details, the proposed job description, salary, work location and an outline of your existing HR arrangements.
02
Prepare the licence application
We identify the appropriate licence category, key personnel and supporting evidence. Any gaps should be dealt with before submission.
03
Plan the worker's application
Once the necessary sponsorship is available, the worker must make a separate visa application. The recruitment timetable should allow for both stages.

Fees and timescales
01 / Fees
Fees and costs
Costs depend on the licence type, the organisation and the worker route. We will separate legal fees from licence charges, certificates of sponsorship and any applicable Immigration Skills Charge.
02 / Timescales
Timing and preparation
A planned start date does not shorten the licence process. Allow time to gather business documents and address compliance issues. Priority services, where available, are subject to Home Office availability.
Read our published Price Guide, then contact us to confirm the work you need and the costs involved.
No. The employer must meet its obligations and the worker must satisfy the visa requirements. These are connected but separate decisions.
Can a small business apply?
Business size alone does not answer the question. Eligibility, the proposed role, the supporting evidence and the ability to meet sponsor duties all need checking.
Is this still called a Tier 2 licence?
Tier 2 is an older label. Employers now apply for the relevant Worker or Temporary Worker licence categories according to the route they need.
Does every licence need renewal after four years?
No. The general position has changed, and some categories have different limits. We check the current requirements for the licence category rather than relying on old renewal advice.
