Business Immigration and Former Entrepreneur Visas

Business plans and immigration permission need to fit together. The former Tier 1 Entrepreneur route is closed to new applications and extensions. Existing holders may still need settlement advice. For a new venture, we can discuss whether a current route needs to be assessed before you commit to an application.

Understanding your next steps

How we can help

Existing Tier 1 Entrepreneur permission

We begin with the previous grants, the business history and the conditions relevant to the remaining settlement provisions. Bring Companies House records, accounts, investment evidence and employment records. Do not assume an old extension checklist remains valid.

A new business proposal

Innovator Founder is a separate route with its own requirements. It involves an approved endorsement of a new, innovative, viable and scalable business. Simply buying an existing business or having investment funds is not enough. We can discuss the immigration questions your proposal raises.

Choose the right business route

An overseas company transferring a manager, an entrepreneur setting up a venture and a visitor attending meetings may need different permissions. We help distinguish the proposed activity before considering the supporting evidence and application process.

A clear way forward

What happens next

  1. Explain the proposed activity

Tell us who owns the business, whether it trades in the UK, your role and your current immigration status.

  2. Review documents and eligibility

We assess the relevant route and identify the business, endorsement or sponsorship evidence that would need to be obtained.

  3. Agree the scope of advice

We explain what the immigration work covers and where separate accounting, tax, corporate or financial advice may be needed.

Fees and timescales

01 / Fees

Fees and costs

We will quote for the immigration work after understanding the business and the applicants involved. Endorsement charges, Home Office fees and professional advice from other advisers are separate costs.

02 / Timescales

Timing and preparation

Endorsement, company evidence and sponsorship can take time to organise. Existing Entrepreneur holders should seek advice before their permission expires because extensions are no longer available under that route.

Useful to know

Your questions, answered

Can I still apply for a Tier 1 Entrepreneur visa?

No. The route is closed to new applications and extensions. Certain existing holders may still qualify for settlement under the remaining provisions.

Is Innovator Founder an automatic replacement?

No. It has its own endorsement and business requirements. A person who qualified under the old Entrepreneur rules will not necessarily qualify under this route.

Will buying a business give me a UK visa?

A purchase does not itself grant immigration permission. The planned work and the requirements of an available route must be considered separately.

Can SJS approve or endorse my business plan?

An immigration solicitor cannot substitute for an approved endorsing body. We can discuss the application requirements and the legal work needed for your circumstances.
